Sarah Palin Just Happens to Be in . . . Iowa!

Pure Coincidence, Not Part of Any Upstaging

The non-Presidential candidate that makes the most news in America is Sarah Palin.  Ms. Palin is not running for President, unless she finds she just cannot stand to be ignored, which she will be once she makes it official that she is not running.  Ms. Palin though does find herself in the oddest places for a non-Candidate.

When Mitt Romney made his formal announcement for President in his home state of New Hampshire (as opposed to his home states of Massachusetts, Michigan or Utah) there was Ms. Palin in her “I Love American and godless Democrats Don’t” bus tour, stealing the thunder.

And now, after ending or pausing or doing something with the bus tour, Ms. Palin has succumbed to the urge to go to Iowa, where in a truly unbelievable coincidence (note:  when something is unbelievable, it means don’t believe it)  there was a major Republican debate, followed by the Ames Straw Poll.

Is Attention the Opium of Politicians?

In an e-mail to her supporters, Palin wrote: “We are very happy to jump back on the bus for another leg of our ‘One Nation Tour’! We accept with gratefulness an invitation to meet folks at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines this week. The heartland is perfect territory for more of the One Nation Tour as we put forth efforts to revitalize the fundamental restoration of America by highlighting our nation’s heart, history, and founding principles.”

Sarah Palin
The Cow is Not Impressed

The Dismal Political Economist does not intend to be critical of Ms. Palin’s visit to Iowa.   Ms. Palin is addicted to attention, and when attention shifts elsewhere she is compelled  to get back on the bus and go after it.  She cannot help herself, and once she is officially out of the race and her followers drift elsewhere, her addiction may remain, but unsatisfied and ready to erupt at any momment.
Like observing any person suffering from an addiction, this is just sad.
