From Le Monde: Hollande majoritaire à Paris : Delanoë salue "une première historique"

Yes You Are Reading That Correctly

There is plenty of commentary on the loss by French President Nicolas Sarkozy, but the above from the French paper Le Monde says it all.  And what it says for those of you who don’t want to study at the Sorbonne is that the citizens of Paris, the people who knew Mr.Sarkozy the best voted against him.

When he was first elected President Mr. Sarkozy apparently chose as his role model the Italian political leader Silvio Berlusconi.  He basically offended the French populace, and so sowed the seeds of his defeat early on.  He never had a chance.
