Dave Brubeck – A Great Jazz Composer/Performer – Passes Away at the Age of 91

Doesn’t Count as a 2012 Death for the Washington Post – They Closed the Books on 2012 Deaths Earlier This Month

This has nothing to do with politics or economics, but it does have something to do with the decline of American newspapers.

Earlier this month the Washington Post listed their notable passing in 2012, despite the fact that 2012 was not over.  So now they have to classify the death of jazz great Dave Brubeck as occurring in, well, not sure when they think it occurred.

We can only assume that the writers of the article on notable deaths in 2012 wanted to get it out of the way four weeks early so they could get started on notable deaths in 2013, which for them will presumably start now and include Mr. Brubeck.  It was reported but not confirmed that the Post writers tried to keep Mr. Brubeck alive until January so as to not mess up their story.

Meanwhile the rest of us need to get ready to answer future generations who ask, “What ever happened to the Washington Post?”
