Conservatives Have Great Respect for the Law – Unless They Don’t Like It – Hobby Lobby Company to Refuse to Comply with New Health Care Law

Conservatives Continue to Lack Core Principles

The objections of a company called Hobby Lobby to the new health care law is that it required them to make various types of family planning available to their employees. Notice that it does not require anyone to use such medicines, it just makes legally approved medicines available to people who want to use them and who have a right to use them.

But like most Conservatives, the people who operate the Hobby Lobby company want to impose their own beliefs and religious practices on their employees.  So the company will not comply with the law.

Oklahoma City-based Hobby Lobby will defy a federal law that requires employee health care plans to provide insurance coverage for types of contraception that the firm’s owners consider to be “abortion-causing drugs and devices,” an attorney for the company said Thursday.

Exactly how the law infringes on the freedom of Hobby Lobby employees or owners to practices their religion themselves is not clear.

David Green, Hobby Lobby founder and CEO, hinted that the company wouldn’t comply with the law.

“Our family is now being forced to choose between following the laws of the land that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families,” Green said in September. “We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.”

And as for following the law of the “land that we love” we would simply suggest that no, Mr. Green and his family does not love the United States.  What country do they love?  Well, 15th century Spain is probably the closest to their ideal.  (Yes the Spanish Inquisition, what else were you expecting?)  And what they also love is the idea of a government or populace or employer that forces religious beliefs of the Greens on everyone else.  That country is not America, at least not until Conservatives take control.
