A Salute to Republican Lt. Gov. Candidate in Virginia E. W. Jackson

He is Saying What Most Republicans Think But Are Afraid To Say

It is difficult to identify the most extreme candidate Republicans have nominated in recent years, but certainly in Virginia the Rev. E. W. Jackson would be near the top, and not a contender for the Miss Congeniality award.  Mr. Jackson’s record is replete with the words of the ultra radical right, and now he may have moved to the top of the list with these comments on religion and Democrats.

The “anti-God” party

You can't be a Christian and a Democrat at the same time, Virginia's GOP candidate for lieutenant governor says

Want more (no you don’t but here it is anyway)?

In a local radio interview this morning, Virginia Republican lieutenant governor nominee E.W. Jackson said the Democratic Party is “anti-God” and that Christians should leave it.

Jackson has said in the past that he thinks believing in God and voting Democratic are fundamentally incompatible, so WLEE host Jack Gravely asked if he still believes it. Gravely explained that he’s a Christian and tends to vote Democratic, just like his parents and family. Jackson didn’t back down.

“You are saying for us, we’re all wrong, leave that party. And all I’m saying to you is, if you said it before, you still have to believe it, why did you say it?” Gravely asked. “Oh, oh, oh I do believe it,” Jackson responded.

He continued: “I said it because I believe that the Democrat Party has become an anti-God party, I think it’s an anti-life party, I think it’s an anti-family party. And these are all things I think Christians hold to very dearly.”

Now why the salute to such odious comments?  Well this is probably what a large majority of Republicans think, but will not say for fear of being offensive.  Mr. Jackson apparently has no fear of being offensive, and no fear that it will cost him any Republican votes.  So he is doing the nation a favor by showing them exactly what ultra radical Republicans think, and those that are under the illusion that Republicans are just a slightly different party in philosophy from Democrats and Independents will have to think again.
